The primary purposes for recording data and information is to enable review and reflection, and to
actualise solutions and create knowledge to improve student outcomes. The knowledge can then be
used at classroom, school and system levels for reporting to students, parents and the public, and for
providing directions for future curriculum initiatives.
The use of SchoolMate.NET enables staff to continually and consistently review and reflect upon student
leaning and social outcome data to refine future teaching moments, and where necessary to modify or
change existing learning and social materials and programs.
As SchoolMate.NET teachers work in the classroom they are able to reflect on particular learning moments
and record their reflection in their learning journal. This is available in SchoolMate.NET. These personal
reflections build an understanding of classroom practice overtime and enable accurate judgements
about teaching delivery.
As SchoolMate.NET teachers begin to teach a particular class for the first time or a particular outcome, they
are able to review and then reflect on a number of pieces of information about past and current
performance. With such information SchoolMate.NET teachers are able to teach the right things to the right
students for the right reasons.
The review and reflection of assessment results helps to determine how well teachers are meeting
learning targets and how best to modify teaching/learning processes so that outcomes can be better met.
But unless the content of assessment (what schools assess) and the format of assessment (how schools
assess) match what is taught and how it is taught, the results are meaningless, if not potentially
harmful. The same is true if assessment tools are not of high quality. The following reflection sheet
may assist SchoolMate.NET staffs to review current school practices.
